Biography

Professor Jun Zou is Chairman of Department of Mathematics and Choh-Ming Li Chair Professor of Mathematics at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). He has been elected as a Fellow of the Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) in 2019 for his “contributions to numerical methods and analyses of direct and inverse problems of partial differential equations.”

Professor Zou graduated with his BSc degree from Department of Mathematics, Jiangxi University in 1983 and received a MSc degree from Wuhan University in 1986. He then received his PhD degree in 1989 from Institute of Computational Mathematics, The Chinese Academy of Sciences. Before taking up his position in CUHK, he worked in University of California at Los Angeles as a post-doctoral fellow and a Computational and Applied Mathematics Assistant Professor from 1993 to 1995. He also worked as a Visiting Assistant Professor and an Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellow from 1991 to 1993 in Technical University of Munich in Germany. He is currently Vice President of Hong Kong Mathematical Society and President of East Asia Section of Inverse Problems International Association. He serves currently as the associate editor of 12 international mathematics journals, including three very influential computational mathematics journals like SIAM Journal on Numerical Analysis, SIAM Journal on Scientific Computing and ESAIM: Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Analysis.
